Firehouse 12 is pleased to present vocalist and composer Fay Victor and her group SoundNoiseFUNK featuring saxophonist Sam Newsome, guitarist Joe Morris, and percussionist Reggie Nicholson. The group released their debut album Wet Robots in August 2018 to critical acclaim.

“Wet Robots is a program of thoughtful particulars, but it’s Victor’s acrobatics that mesmerize. Unabashed when it comes to sound creation, one can hear the passion in every syllable she utters, whether manic or modest. With echoes of Lauren Newton and Meredith Monk, the singer builds a web of personalized pieces that boast exuberance, with each warble, shriek and roar crafting a ferocious identity. Informed by blues and politics, their cagey deployment is downright entrancing, especially when bolstered by this kind of collective clout” (Jim Macnie, Downbeat).

Brooklyn, NY based sound artist/composer Fay Victor hones a unique vision for the vocalist’s role in jazz and improvised music regarding repertoire, improvisation and composition. Victor has performed with luminaries such as Randy Weston, Gary Bartz, Roswell Rudd, Nicole Mitchell, Misha Mengelberg, Archie Shepp, Marc Ribot & Tyshawn Sorey; Highlights of her performances include The Museum of Modern Art (NYC), The Hammer Museum (LA), The Kolner Philharmonie (Germany), De Young Museum (SF), Symphony Space (NY) and the Bimhuis (Netherlands). Victor was the 2017 Herb Albert/Yaddo Fellow in Music Composition. Victor is also a educator and improvising specialist of the highest order, giving clinics and workshops around the world. Victor joined the Faculty of the New School in Spring 2019.
