There’s a Yearnin’ shines a light on notated compositions for winds by Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy and Oliver Nelson. This project unearths a previous unheard woodwind sextet by Eric Dolphy which was found in the Library of Congress archives by Lederer and was performed and recorded with the cooperation of the Dolphy estate for the first time. This work is paired with Ornette Coleman’s rarely performed “Forms and Sounds” quintets and Lederer’s own arrangements of compositions by Oliver Nelson with original lyrics by vocalist Mary LaRose. This performance brings Lederer and LaRose together with the Wildebeest Wind Quintet comprised of Michel Gentile (flute), Kathy Halvorson (oboe), Mike McGinnis (clarinet), Sara Schoenbeck (bassoon) and Aliyah Danielle (horn).
