Firehouse 12 is pleased to present saxophonist and composer Ingrid Laubrock with her new sextet featuring guitarist Brandon Seabrook, bassist Michael Formanek, drummer Tom Rainey, violinist Mazz Swift, and cellist Tomeka Reid. The sextet will be recording a new release for Firehouse 12 Records the next day.
Ingrid Laubrock has "an aesthetic of unsettled calm and unhurried revelation…[and] can make free improvisation feel structurally inevitable" (Nate Chinen, The New York Times). John Sharpe of All About Jazz praised her 2013 release Strong Place and wrote "every nook and cranny on this wonderful record demans in depth appreciation and amply rewards the time spent." Ben Ratliff called her playing "omnivorous and pointed, slouching and precise, humorous and austere."
Laubrock is originally from Germany and is now residing in Brooklyn. She has performed and recorded with musicians like Anthony Braxton, Dave Douglas, Kenny Wheeler, Mary Halvorson, and Evan Parker. She has won a BBC Jazz Award, a Fellowship by the Arts Foundation, and a commission from SWR's New Jazz Meeting. In addition to her quintet she performs with Anti-House, the Tom Rainey Trio, the Mary Halvorson Septet, and Paradoxical Frog.
