On July 20, John Zorn's SIMULACRUM returns to Firehouse 12, following on their thunderous 2015 appearance. This group, featuring organist John Medeski (Medeski, Martin and Wood), guitarist Matt Hollenberg (Cleric) and drummer Kenny Grohowski (Abraxas), performs music composed by John Zorn. While the instrumentation and blistering volume of the group bring to mind the Tony Williams Lifetime, the compositional imprint is unmistakably Zorn's. Dramatic through-composed pieces that unfold with a cinematic logic, this genre bending music defies classification, touching upon metal, jazz, minimalism, atonality, noise and more. The show will feature two sets, at our normal set times of 8:30 and 10:00. Tickets for each set are $30.
