In his debut at Firehouse 12, saxophonist and composer Josh Sinton presents a batch of new music drawn from his record making bones... on Illuso Records. The release date coincides with the performance. This ensemble, the Predicate Trio, is built on questions around how to begin musical discourse among 3 creative musicians. In his compositional process, Sinton spends as much time as needed to completely notate a score for all three players, and then proceeds, literally, to erase large chunks of it. The final product is a distillation of the initial imagined dynamic with as much room for mystery, surprise and life as can be packed into the space. This is part of a larger life-project of Sinton's pursuit of new ways to compose for other creatively-minded artists.

Writing in the liner notes to Sinton's Slow Learner, writer and polymath Greg Tate (Burnt Sugar) said "[i]f Archie Shepp were here to assess the intentions lurking within this Sinton dude and his gloriously monstrous barisax, Brother Shepp would most likely and quite plainly state, 'Take this ex-cannibal's kiss and turn it into a revolution.'" In a review of the album Flakes in All About Jazz New York, Troy Collins wrote, “[w]ith his muscular tone and dexterous phrasing, Sinton proves to be as dynamic an interpreter as he is arranger. His flair for crafting architecturally sound solos is impressively demonstrated...where he gradually ascends from supple, blues- inflected note bends to a coruscating screed of chromatic flurries without missing a beat."

Josh Sinton is a Brooklyn-based baritone saxophonist, bass clarinetist and creative musician. He is part of the renaissance of creative activity that has been happening over the past 15 years in Brooklyn that includes musicians such as Mary Halvorson, Nate Wooley, Mike Pride and Ingrid Laubrock. Currently he leads the innovative Steve Lacy-repertory band Ideal Bread (with Kirk Knuffke, Tomas Fujiwara and Adam Hopkins) as well as the trio musicianer. He is a long-standing member of the Nate Wooley Quintet and the Tri-Centric Orchestra and spent many years as a member of Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society (appearing on both of their Grammy-nominated albums) as well as the Burnt Sugar Arkestra and Andrew D'Angelo's DNA Orchestra.
