Music from the new album, “Natural Name” for acoustic guitar & acoustic bass guitar. “… An intimate stillness in which the illumination of the opportunities of the present moment can be heard and experienced beyond standard notions of style and genre. That is the heart of the music of For Living Lovers.” - Bret Sjerven, Sunnyside Records

For Living Lovers is the acoustic duo of guitarist Brandon Ross and acoustic bass guitarist Stomu Takeishi. Founded in 2002, the duo developed while Ross and Takeishi were band members in visionary composer Henry Threadgill’s quintet, “Make A Move”. Realization of a shared musical sensibility Ross and Takeishi premiered their collaboration in 2002 at the cutting edge, “mashup” venue, Tonic on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Following the tenure with Threadgill, Ross featured their duo on two of his solo records, Costume 2004 and Puppet 2006 for the Japanese label, Intoxicate Records.

After tours in Japan and concerts and festivals in the US, the duo released their first full-length album, “Revealing Essence” on Sunnyside Records 2014. Critically acclaimed for its unique vision and musical direction it found its way onto several critics “best of” lists. Chamber Music America awarded Ross and the duo a New Jazz Works grant that same year which yielded a premiere of “Immortal Obsolescence” a song-cycle of 10 songs for the duo plus “Blazing Beauty” the extended group. “Natural Name” will be released on October 31 on Sunnyside Records and documents For Living Lovers latest state of realization.

“Natural Name” will be released October 31, 2025 on Sunnyside Records.
