Martin Wind


Bassist Martin Wind was born in Flensburg, Germany and studied music at the Musikhochschule Cologne, embarking on a successful career as one of the premier German bassists. On a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Martin moved to New York in 1996 to study at New York University, receiving his M.A. in 1998. At age 33, he has eight albums under his belt as leader or co-leader, the most recent being “Family” for A-Records, and “Dreiklang” for Blue Note Records. One of the most in-demand bassist on the New York jazz scene, he has worked with Clark Terry, Slide Hampton, Bill Mays, Keith Copeland, Tim Horner, Jiggs Whigham, Charlie Mariano, John Taylor, Monty Alexander, Toots Tielemans, Mark Murphy, Eddie Daniels, Radiobigbands Cologne, Frankfurt, and Berlin, Radio Symphony Orchestras Cologne and Munich, Broadway’s Phantom of the Opera, and many others.
