Dezron Douglas

Performer's Website

Bassist, Composer, Bandleader, Educator

Born and raised in Hartford, CT Dezron began playing the bass since the early age of 9. Learning first about music in the church, he joined his father Alton Douglas’ gospel quartet when he was 12. Being the nephew of legendary jazz drummer and composer Walter Bolden, Dezron was surrounded by music most of his childhood. He met Jackie McLean when he was 17 and enrolled in his African American music studies program at the Hartt School within the University of Hartford. The late McLean has been an important fixture in his life since their encounter. Graduating from the Jackie McLean Institute where he studied w/ Nat Reeves, Steve Davis, and McLean, Dezron has gone onto perform and record with such jazz luminaries as Michael Carvin, Pharoah Sanders, Cyrus Chestnut, Branford Marsalis, Rene McLean, Steve Davis, Kenny Garrett, Jon Faddis, Nicholas Payton, Carl Allen, Winard Harper, Abraham Burton, Eric McPherson, Alan Jay Palmer, Joe Farnsworth, Eric Alexander, Andy Bey, Kevin Mahogany, and many other wonderful musicians. The blessings of this classic African American music have brought Dezron across the country and abroad including Italy, France, Estonia, Finland, Portugal, Spain, and the Netherlands as well as the Caribbean. In 2000, while in college, he cofounded a septet of equally minded musicians called The New Jazz Workshop of Hartford, CT. The group, all composers in their own right, performs locally throughout the Tri State area.
