Jack Vees

electric bass

Featured in Rolling Stone magazine and hailed by the Music Connection as "transcendental, a monster player," Jack Vees has revolutionized the electric bass world. He started playing professionally at fourteen and has worked in jazz, rock, Afro pop, salsa, and virtually any genre on or beneath the radar in the past thirty years. He wrote The Book on Bass Harmonics (Alfred Music, 1981), and developed a unique solo voice, utilizing an astonishing array of extended techniques while always maintaining soul and groove. He has an unusual pedigree, having studied composition with such luminaries as Louis Andriessen and electronic music pioneer, Morton Subotnick, while at the same time playing with some of the more outlandish groups in Los Angeles in the 1980s. He is well known for combining cutting edge technology with a compositional style that utilizes his experiences from both rock and classical backgrounds. By day, he is the Director of the Center for Studies in Music Technology at Yale University. Vees's all bass guitar set will include his innovative approach to cover tunes as well as original compositions.
