Sam Sadigursky

Performer's Website

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Sam Sadigursky was surrounded by music from an early age. His parents, both classical musicians from the U.S.S.R., immersed him in many types of music and encouraged his interest.

While in high school, Sam was the winner of the John Coltrane Young Artist Award, the NFAA/IAJE Clifford Brown/Stan Getz Fellowship, and the Music Center Spotlight Award. He was also a member of the Grammy All-American High School Big Band and toured Japan with the Monterey Jazz Festival All Star Big Band. Besides leading his own quartet around Los Angeles, he also appeared at the Los Angeles Classic Jazz Festival with Milt Hinton and Herb Ellis, did a duo gig at the Club Brasserie with pianist Brad Mehldau, and performed at Carnegie Hall as part of the JVC Jazz Festival.

In 1997, Sam moved to the east coast in order to study at William Paterson University in the jazz program there lead by Rufus Reid. While in school, he toured with pianist Sergio Salvatore, recorded and played around New York with the collective project "Spirals" (Unleaded Records), and recorded with bassist Ray Brown on Eiji Kitamura's "Jazz Party" (Japanese release).

Since moving to Brooklyn in 2002, Sam appears at venues all over the city and around the country. He has twice been the recipient of an ASCAP Foundation Young Composer Award and was a young artist at the 2002 Ravinia Jazz Festival. An accomplished flutist and clarinetist, he has played in the pits of numerous Broadway shows, was featured on the score for the 2002 flim release "Seeing Other People," and has collaborated with composers on modern dance commissions and music for live dramatic works. Among others, he has recently performed with the Mingus Orchestra, Lucia Pulido, Chita Rivera, Edmar Casteneda, Ben Monder, and Eldar Djangirov at venues around New York, including the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), the Blue Note, Smalls, Tonic, Jazz Standard, 55 Bar, and Radio City Music Hall.
