Est. Basfidel - father & son
Barre & David Phillips
The beat goes on, generation to generation, one step forward, two back, three forward - movement. In this project we are meeting two men who are attached not only by bloodline but also by art and their common craft. David, the son, with formal training in classical music plus years of experience in jazz, rock, traditional music etc, has made a career as a freelancer in New York these past 25 years. Barre, the father, mainly self-taught, resides in Provence since 1972 and is a permanent fixture on the world's improvised music scene.
Their music together promises to be fresh, strong, rhythmic, melodic, noisy, tender and aggressive, all at the same time. Their first tour as a duo, in November 2007, is aided by a grant from FACE.
Basfidel has been made possible with the support from Chamber Music America and French American Cultural Exchange's CMA/FACE French-American Jazz Exchange Program, funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, Cultures France and FMEO - Le Bureau Export de la Musique Francaise.
