Conceived by pianist Miki Sawada, this concert is one that celebrates some of New Haven's most profound, imaginative, and diverse contributions to the musical world. Each of the piano trios performed this afternoon has its own specific connection to the Elm City, but it is the event as a whole that could scarcely be repeated anywhere else! The evening will feature two major contributions to the piano-trio repertoire, that both happen to have their roots here: the trios of both Charles Ives and Martin Bresnick!
We are also very excited to announce that this concert is being conducted as a collaboration with Music Haven and their compelling new project: NewMusic4Us. This is a project dedicated to commissioning new works for piano trio at the student level, and this afternoon, we will be hearing one of the results of this project: a world premiere of a new work composed by New Haven's own Benjamin Wallace! We can hardly express how inspired and excited we are that we will be hearing a world premiere performed by three middle-school students, so please come and share this with us!
