On Friday, October 17th, Firehouse 12 is pleased to welcome percussionist and composer Mike Pride along with his group From Bacteria to Boys featuring saxophonist Jon Irabagon, pianist Alexis Marcelo, and bassist Peter Bitenc.
Mike Pride's "myriad projects run the gamut from avant-garde jazz and indie rock to neo-classical chamber music and performance art" (Troy Collins, All About Jazz). His composition "runs toward shifty postbop, veering between swing and backbeats, constitutionally hardy but prone to digression. It isn't background music" (Nate Chinen, The New York Times). "From Bacteria to Boys, is a successful balance of the tuneful and the abstract" (Lyn Horton, Jazztimes).
Pride was born and raised in Southern Maine and has resided in New York City since 2000. In addition to From Bacteria to Boys, he currently leads the 7-drummer installation-band Drummer's Corpse, and the piano trio I Hate Work. His records are available on AUM Fidelity. He has performed and/or recorded with such notable musicians as Mick Barr, Peter Evans, Mary Halvorson, Joe Morris, William Parker, Matana Roberts, Jamie Saft, Nate Wooley, among others.
