On November 29th, Firehouse 12 is pleased to welcome trumpeter Peter Evans and a special group featuring his Zebulon Trio (bassist John Hébert and drummer Kassa Overall) with special guests legendary saxophonist Dave Liebman and pianist Ron Stabinsky.
Evans "is an urgent new talent who promises to upend the world of Jazz and Improv...what's astonishing here is his musical intelligence and conceptual nous" (Andy Hamilton, The Wire). Evans was called one of the "best musicians of his generation, and Nature/Culture is both a summary and documentation of his achievements so far, as well as a rich, rewarding, and deeply musical album (Eric Wubbels, New Music Box). Evans's 2011 recording Ghosts was called "a modern classic of the future" (Mark Corroto, All About Jazz).
Evans moved to New York City in 2003 after graduating from Oberlin Conservatory with a degree in classical trumpet. He has worked in many contexts with musicians like Nate Wooley, Mary Halvorson, Weasel Walter, Moppa Elliot, Evan Parker, Sam Pluta, John Zorn, Peter Brotzmann, and Mats Gustafsson. In addition to his work with improvisers, he has worked extensively with the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) and has given workshops on music, trumpet, and improvisation at the University of California in San Diego, The Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, Northwestern University, among others.
