On Friday, October 19th, Firehouse 12 is pleased to present a debut performance by violinist/violist Mat Maneri and his quartet featuring vibraphonist Matt Moran, bassist Garth Stevenson, and drummer Randy Peterson. Maneri's playing is expressive, intricate, and makes extensive use of microtonality.

Maneri has been called "one of the most accomplished artists on his instrument operating in any musical idiom" (Derek Taylor, One Final Note) and someone who has "changed the way the jazz world listens to the violin and viola" (All About Jazz). Maneri "has been incredibly prolific. [His] versatility and range, especially on the viola, have facilitated work within widely different musical contexts" (Nils Jacobson, All About Jazz).

Maneri has performed and recorded with master improvisers Cecil Taylor, Matthew Shipp, Joe Morris, William Parker, Gerald Cleaver, and his late father Joe Maneri. Maneri started studying violin at the age of five and received a full scholarship as the principal violinist at Walnut Hill High School and New England Conservatory of Music. He now performs and records as a leader of numerous groups and teaches at The New School in Manhattan.
