On Friday, June 8th, Firehouse 12 welcomes drummer/composer Ernesto Cervini and his quartet as they celebrate the release of their new album There (Anzic Records). Cervini’s music takes a straight-forward but not necessarily straight-ahead approach. His compositions are nimble, intricate, smart, and always directly communicated by his quartet.
Cervini "exemplifies 'float like a butterfly, sting like a bee' . . . turning drums in a rainforest symphony" (Ken Micallef, DownBeat). Glen Hall of Exclaim Magazine wrote "Cervini plays with such conviction and fire that it’s easy to give him your ears and time." Dan Bilawsky raved Cervini’s "music always comes across as smart, with an occasional tongue-in-cheek element at play" (All About Jazz).
Cervini has shared the stage with many musicians like Joe Lovano, Clark Terry, Benny Golson, Buddy DeFranco, Eddie Daniels, and many others. Primarily a drummer, Cervini also plays the piano and clarinet - this versatility has allowed him to travel the world, performing in venues such as Birdland, The Montreal Bistro, Massey Hall, and The Glen Gould Theatre. Cervini is based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
