On Friday, June 1st, Firehouse 12 welcomes drummer/composer Allison Miller and her quartet BOOM TIC BOOM as they celebrate the release of their new album Live at Willisau (Foxhaven Records). Miller last performed on the series in fall 2008 with the Shakers N’ Bakers. For this performance BOOM TIC BOOM will feature pianist Myra Melford, saxophonist Donny McCaslin, and bassist Brad Jones.

Miller "is a drummer of fierce clarity and bold imagination" (John Miller, The Guardian) who music has been called "thinly veiled, mysterious, yet direct music that draws you in and makes you crave more" (Michael G. Nastos, AllMusicGuide). Mark Corroto of All About Jazz has noted her “ability to embrace multiple formats of music, making them relevant to the immediate situation she finds herself in.”

Twice named "rising star drummer" in the DownBeat critics poll, Miller is active in jazz as well as popular music, keeping time for the likes of Ani DiFranco, Natalie Merchant, and Brandi Carlile. In her jazz playing she is deeply influenced by legendary drummer Ed Blackwell. Miller grew up in the Washington, D.C. area and began playing drums at age 10. After college, she moved to New York City, where she established herself not only as an in-demand drummer, but as a composer, producer, and teacher.
