On Friday, April 13th, Firehouse 12 welcomes back saxophonist/composer Steve Lehman and his trio, featuring bassist Chris Tordini and drummer Damion Reid. Lehman last performed in Fall 2009 in support of his critically-acclaimed CD Travail, Transformation, and Flow (Pi Recordings). This Firehouse 12 appearance is part of an east-coast tour celebrating the release of his latest album Dialect Fluorescent (Pi Recordings).

Lehman has been called a “quietly dazzling saxophonist” (Steve Smith, New York Times), “one of the transforming figures of early 21st-century jazz” (John Fordham, The Guardian), and “one of the most remarkable new saxophonists to emerge in the past 10 years” (Signal To Noise).

Named a Rising Star on the alto saxophone in 2006, 2007, and 2008 by the Downbeat Magazine International Critics Poll, Lehman’s work resides on the frontiers of contemporary music. He has been featured in articles by The Wire, The New York Times, The Village Voice, Downbeat, and National Public Radio. A former student of both Jackie McLean and Anthony Braxton, he has performed and recorded throughout the US and Europe with his own ensembles, and with those led by Anthony Braxton, Dave Burrell, Mark Dresser, Vijay Iyer, Oliver Lake, and Meshell Ndegeocello.
